Tuning In To the Past
Using the Akashic Records to Bring a Person or Period to Life Again

This is not for everybody, I freely admit that. If you are a confirmed non-believer in such things then I advise you to detour around this page and just enjoy the rest of the site. This section is not here to argue for the existence, or otherwise, of proof for this method but is here to provide and explanation of what the Akashic Record is, how it is accessed and how it works, as well as providing a few sample readings.

What are Akashic Records

There is an ancient Indian belief that everything that happens in this world, right from the beginning of its existence, is recorded on a substance called the Akasa. As to what the Akasa is, this is best explained by my friend and Akashic consultant, Alison King:

The akasa is an unseen substance which is all around us all and present in every atom of this world and of the universe. This substance is capable of being impressed by the images, thoughts, sounds, smells, tastes and feelings of what it comes into contact with, and because it is in contact with everything, everything is recorded. It is like having a multi-sensory photograph or holograph being constantly taken and kept on file.

This is not just a 'New Age' or even an 'Old Age' belief, however, but has also recently been the subject of a book by Nobel Prize nominee - philosopher and scientist Ervin Laszlo, entitled
Science and the Akashic Field: An Integral Theory of Everything. This book uses the ideas behind quantum physics, coherence, consciousness and the holographic universe to explain just how the Akashic field exists and works within a scientific model. It is fascinating (and fairly easy) reading and I recommend it to anyone who wants to look deeper into the subject.

How are the records accessed?
It takes both aptitude and training, according to Alison. It requires a psychic ability to tune into a specific date and location - or a person and date, and then training and discipline to shut out the Akashic reader's own thoughts, interpretations and assumptions.

What can be found out through the Akashic?
I have found it most valuable for seeing a historical character's physical appearance, personality, and they way they react to certain situations. But virtually anything - if it happened - can be viewed: interpersonal relationships; events; things now hidden from us by the veil of time or destruction of records.

How accurate are they?
In my experience (and also in the experience of fellow Akashic user Elizabeth Chadwick) - very accurate, although with the proviso that, skilled though she is, Alison is only human and not a historian herself. Which means that I never take anything she says as necessarily being right or the total truth unless I am able to support it with other research or even suppositions borne of that research. On some occasions Alison will come up with things that at first glance seem to be wrong, but which, upon further inspection (or new, material information), have actually been proved correct.

How did I come to use the Akashic Records?
I have always experienced things beyond the 'normal', such as presences and flashbacks into a different time, although it's never been controllable or on demand. So, from the beginning I had an open mind about such things being possible - it was more the case of finding someone who I could trust and who wasn't a charlatan. I first encountered the idea of reading the Akashic Records through Elizabeth Chadwick's website. Alison is Elizabeth's long-time friend and it was by chance that they discovered such readings were possible. Several of Elizabeth's books (e.g. The Greatest Knight, The Scarlet Lion, A Place Beyond Courage, To Defy a King) contain material describing events glimpsed during Akashic sessions. I knew, from Elizabeth's documented sessions, that the readings had thrown up several surprises that, later, turned out to be accurate; so I was pretty convinced that whatever Alison did, it worked for Elizabeth.

I decided to see if it would also work for me and, through Elizabeth, contacted Alison and set up my first session. I didn't really know what to expect, and part of me did, actually, fear that I would be disappointed. But I wasn't: Alison came through with some great details, as well as stuff that she couldn't have known about. Since then I have had several more sessions over the phone and one face to face, and each time interesting things have come up. Things that I can use in the novel. Through Alison, Hugh has become very real for me now, and it is this 'closeness' which will, I hope, allow me to do him justice, as a three-dimensional human being, in the novel.

Writing Using the Akashic Records
Elizabeth Chadwick describes her use of Akashic records within her novels as 'the flash of gold in my research braid'. I think that's the best way to describe it. As an author of fiction, a story still needs to be woven, dialogue invented and scenes set. As an author of historical fiction, I feel it is important to also have some integrity about how you portray people and events that actually happened. To a large extent this is done by thorough research into the primary and secondary sources still extant. Using the Akashic in tandem with the research enables me to really get to know my characters: their hopes, fears and the motivations behind the things they did. Even so, I would say that the proportioning between research and the Akashic in my writing is about 80/20 - but that 20% is what adds the heart and soul beyond the crafting and the dry history.

The Future for Using Akashic Records?
As things stand, I don't think that using any form of 'psychic' means to research a book will become commonplace. There is still far too much resistance against anything considered as paranormal, despite promising breakthroughs in parapsychology and quantum physics. Hopefully one day, such things will be more fully understood by science and therefore accepted as a whole, but, whether that happens in my lifetime or not (unlikely), I shall still be using Akashic Record readings for my historical fiction!

Below are links to a select few transcripts of my sessions with Alison. Links to excerpts of Elizabeth's sessions can be found on her web page.

Excerpt One...Hugh as a teenager and Hugh with his children...
Excerpt Two... Roger Mortimer
Excerpt Three... Alice de Lacy and Margaret Badlesmere
Excerpt Four... Hugh and Edward II

NOTE:
Because using such methods is an extremely contentious issue, I only use what I learn from the sessions in my
fictional work. All of the non-fiction articles about Hugh and the early 14th century are based solely on academic sources - primary and secondary. No Akashic revelations are ever used in these pieces of work.
